Many people have second thoughts about their tattoos. What once seemed to be a good idea, often does not fit into your current lifestyle.

Past methods of tattoo removal were invasive and caused scarring. With advanced laser technology, both professional and amateur tattoos can be removed more easily than before with a minimal amount of residual pigment and scarring.

How does laser tattoo removal work? Pigment in the tattoo absorbs the laser energy and is shattered into tiny fragments. Over time, these fragments are carried away by the body's defense system and the tattoo fades. Some colours are easier to treat than others.

Is the treatment painful? The laser pulses are fired very rapidly and a stinging sensation is felt. Some areas are more sensitive to treatment than other areas. An anaesthetic cream can be applied before the treatment to numb the area.

How many treatments are necessary?   The number of treatments required depends on the colour, size, location and depth of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos usually require 3 to 6 treatments and professional tattoos may need 6 to 12 treatments. Treatments are done 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow your system to remove the maximum amount of pigment.

Dr. Gidon can assess your tattoo and discuss a treatment plan.
